About me

Hi, I am Bex and I am an Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor with over 20 years’ experience of working within mental health.
I know that seeking counselling can be a daunting process, however, I offer a warm, supportive and non- judgemental space where we can explore any issues that could be preventing you from living a more fulfilling life.

I have worked across a variety of communities, with many different cultures, offering mental health support for individuals that have experienced a one – off traumatic event to years of constant suffering with their own emotional well-being, striving for a happier life.

My years of training and experience in becoming a counsellor has taught me that each client is unique with their own perspective and understanding depending on their context and experience- it is my work to sit alongside you or your child, understanding the pain and finding a way together to alleviate some of the suffering whilst trusting your own feelings and intuition. You may not always know what you want from this process and that might be something you discover during our work together, this is a space to be heard and understood.

I believe a therapeutic relationship can be a powerful tool for change and alongside this I offer a variety of interventions that you can use and adapt to suit your needs, taking away your own tool box of strategies to support your life after the counselling process has finished.

I have experience of working with additional needs, specifically Autism and have worked for agencies offering counselling for survivors of sexual abuse, bereavement and loss and adolescent trauma.

Some people are keen to try different ways of understanding their experience in order to allow healing to begin. Some of these techniques might include writing, making, imagery, sand tray work, drawing, journaling, mindfulness and other creative ways of exploring feelings and experiences.

Understanding trauma in a different way can be a really effective way of releasing trapped emotions.

For some people, talking is enough and we can work out the best way to work through something together.

Each client is unique, and met with no expectations. This is your journey and you are the expert on your life, it is my hope to work with you in a way that feels comfortable and within your limits.

I have worked with Children for over 20 years, particularly teenagers, and have worked with several mental health conditions.

Working with children can be different to adults and I use a variety of ways to connect and support children if they are struggling with a particular issue. This could be a one off event or a combination of issues that have contributed to something they now feel unable to cope with.

In particular I have extensive experience of working with bereavement and loss, anxiety and panic, trauma and abuse, and low self-esteem.

Alongside talking, I offer a variety of interventions; some children like to draw, write, make or play in order to move through the process and towards healing.

Different ways of communicating can be really helpful for both adults and                                                                                children

My approach is gentle and understanding, I meet the child at the stage they are at, get to know them and together find the best way of dealing with some of their distress or pain.

I offer face to face sessions in a lovely, child friendly space in Chesterfield.

Parent and carers are part of the process too, I will always meet with families first to go through contracts and how things will work, and if there are any concerns or if I feel a referral to another agency would be appropriate that would be discussed together. Some children may want a carer with them for the first session, or until they feel comfortable and this is fine too, I am guided by the child.
